I forgot to mention this - Mark&#39;s brother, James, was rejected from the foreign service the first time he applied. He didn&#39;t do well enough on his Arabic. He decided to go to Jordan to practice more of the language (and wasn&#39;t able to go there and ended up going to Syria instead ... then his girlfriend broke up with him when he got back). He worked for the World Wildlife Fund to pass the time. But now he&#39;s in the foreign service and was stationed in Matamoros, Mexico for a while and is now going to Baghdad in the fall.<br /><br />I guess what I&#39;m trying to say is ... hopefully things will work out for you, too, even if it takes a year or two longer than you wanted. :) I&#39;m so sorry he got rejected. Your situation, with some modifications, sounds kind of like ours, and we recently experienced a really, really difficult rejection. It&#39;s the worst -- I have all empathy for you. And we got our rejection on a Friday, too!
